This is the project I should have done before my A-10. I had no experience with ducted fans, but jumped right in. I lost an engine and nearly lost a plane (the A-10, that is). So, while the A-10 is in the hangar for repairs, I've checked myself into ducted fan rehab and am taking DF 101. Long before I started my A-10, and when I was just looking into ducted fans in general, I came across the Sunspot. It's a modified version of the Balsa USA Force One, which is a delta-wing pusher. The Sunspot coversion turns the Force One into a ducted fan jet. I decided to build the Sunspot and gain much needed experience with ducted fan engines before flying the A-10 again. However, I have rechristened the Sunspot as the A-9½ Piglet (corny, I know, but I can't help myself). |

The first step was to buy the conversion plans, which I did a few months ago. They are available from Flying Models magazine. Click HERE to go to their plans directory. Click on the thumbnail image to go to the A-9½ Piglet gallery for more photos and details of my build. |

Things are coming along nicely and, as you can see by the thumbnail image, I have started to cover the model. Click on that image to go to the A-9½ Piglet gallery to see more of the progress. |
